EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) or "tapping" is a revolutionary self-help technique, developed by Gary Craig, that relieves the emotional charge around the things that bother us in life (or that we carry around with us). It has been reported successful in thousands of cases covering a huge range of issues, including fears, phobias, anger, grief, anxiety, depression, traumatic memories, PTSD, worry, guilt and all limiting emotions in sports, business and the performing arts. As the mind and body are closely connected, it is often used to assist healing from physical conditions too. We do not claim that EFT cures any physical ailments, although many people have experienced remarkable improvements in their physical health, including complete recovery from illnesses after doing this work. In any case it helps enormously in dealing emotionally with the condition. It often works where nothing else does.
EFT is based on the principle that (as Gary puts it) 'The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system'. This statement has sometimes been mistakenly interpreted as implying that something in us is broken, or somehow not working correctly. I therefore prefer to say that 'The cause of all emotions is a response in the body's energy system to our thoughts and perceptions'. It is that response that we feel, and that we know as anger, guilt, fear, sadness, joy, peace etc. EFT is sometimes described as an ‘emotional acupuncture without the needles’. It works by tapping on various acupuncture points while keeping focused on the issue.
This technique goes very much hand in hand with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), and the two greatly enrich each other, and my trainers (Sue Beer and Emma Roberts in London) and others have developed blends of EFT and NLP.
One great thing about it is that one can learn the basics and get significant benefits in a very short time.
There are no damaged or defective people in the world. We are all functioning perfectly based on our current belief systems, some of which are not serving us well. Every behaviour is coming from a positive intention and is the best or only thing we can do from our perspective at that time.
Below are two video clips each showing a different approach for using the tapping on yourself. They both work, as do some other approaches, although many people prefer one way over another. I suggest that you watch them both, experiment and see what works best for you.
